Some Initial Thoughts on Internet Radio

Hello everyone,

Here is the first weekend in May, the weather in the northern hemisphere is getting more springlike every day. A time of renewal, returning hope. It's good that when one looks to Washington DC these days, one does not cringe as much. One of our DJs, Arkstar, suggested that I comment more about the programs on the station, and on the making of the station from week to week. This is that first effort.

This coming weekend (May 2-3)'s scheduled programming includes:

*New* Original SpiritPlants Radio programming: "Within's Within: Scenes from the Psychedelic Revolution" with DJ Soulard - Show information: http://geocities.com/scriptorpress/withinswithin.html - I am especially happy to be spinning The Church this week, one of the best modern psychedelic bands that I know - I saw them twice many years ago and still remember how amazing they were

*New* Original SpiritPlants Radio programming: "Regional Cuisine: Deep Fried Roots Music with DJRL" - featuring the music of Bob Dylan, the Grateful Dead, Stevie Wonder, Jimi Hendrix, and more - this episode is like a psychedelic party, a lot of fun from start to finish

*New* Original SpiritPlants Radio programming: "ShamanicFreedomRadio with Opaquelens": Episodes 21-22: Interview with Ross Hemsworth Parts 1 & 2 - Show information: http://shamanicfreedomradio.podomatic.com - much interesting discussion in this interview of the Glastonbury Festival in the UK, a real psychedelic fest from what I have heard over the years

* "Comedy Hour" featuring Margaret Cho, "Notorious C.H.O." (Live at Carnegie Hall, New York City, 2002) - Cho is fucking funny, like your really smart gay friend who likes to go off on a thousand different topics in a unwitheringly witty way

* "Psychedelic Lectures" featuring "Psychonautica" #71: Interview with Jan Irvin” – Show information: http://dopecast.libsyn.com/index.php?post_id=453012

* "Jazz Cafe" featuring John Coltrane, "The Olatunji Concert" (1967) - Amazing concert, not for the faint hearted, but for those who want to hear what dark psychedelic jazz sounds like

* "News Hour" featuring President Barack Obama's 100 Days in Office Press Conference (4/29/2009)

* "Long Live Rock!": featuring "Grateful Dead Listening Guide #3: The Jingle Bell Rainbow" - Show information: http://deadlistening.blogspot.com/2009/03/gdlg-003-jingle-bell-rainbow.html

* "Electronica Monthly" #27 - Show information: http://www.electronicamonthly.com/php/podcasts.php#EM027 - I wish this show was much longer!

For 36 hours of weekend programming I spend at least as much getting the schedule ready. It is challenging, to find and work with DJs and the deadlines they get. Sometimes it works great. Sometimes it doesn't. Also to get podcasts and other external material. I'm still finishing the last bits for this weekend, including this podcast. I'll try to keep adding comments here from now on.

This weekend's programming continues the 2009 SpiritPlants Radio weekend schedule. Your feedback (spiritplantsradio@gmail.com) will be greatly appreciated in helping to improve our station!

Peace,
Raymond
Station Manager
